This 45 foot Prevost Mirage XL 45 Mobile Temporary Headquarters Vehicle (known as Big Blue) was delivered to the
City of New York for use by the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management in 1997. This unit responded on September 11, 2001 when the
planes hit the World Trade Center. Fortunately, the unit and all on board survived the WTC disaster even though on-scene near Ground Zero.
Extensive restoration has returned the vehicle's exterior to its original condition.
As the flag-ship unit for the OEM, "Big Blue" continues to provide service in the coordination and deployment of resources between multiple
law enforcement and safety departments. The interior sections include radio communications and surveillance monitoring, a central gallery,
and a rear communications/dispatch center.
The unit is powered by a powerful rear pusher Detroit Diesel Series 60 DDEC3 engine. Auxiliary HVAC and electrical power for other components
is provided by an on-board 25 kilowatt diesel generator mounted under the floor on a powered roll-out tray. Body and chassis combinations may
vary according to customers' specifications.
